When listing products on Amazon you have to keep in mind that there are some requirements that are expected from Amazon. As a seller, you are expected to know the Amazon product listing policies. If you don’t, it can result in the suspension of your Amazon selling account and losing your selling privileges.
What is The Seller Code of Conduct?
Amazon states:
“Amazon enables you to reach hundreds of millions of customers. We strive to ensure a fair and trustworthy buyer and seller experience. At Amazon, we expect you to adhere to the code of conduct principles outlined below. Violation of the code of conduct principles may result in the loss of your selling privileges and removal from Amazon Marketplace”.
Below is a list of the seller code of conduct principles pulled directly from Seller Central:
Adhere to all applicable laws and abide by all Amazon policies.
Maintain current account information.
Never misrepresent yourself.
Always act in a manner that ensures a trustworthy experience for Amazon customers.
Never list products that may cause harm to Amazon customers.
Never engage in any misleading, inappropriate or offensive behavior. This applies to all your activities, including but not limited to:
Information provided on your account
Information provided in listings, content or images
Communication between you and Amazon or you and our customers
Act fairly at all times. Unfair behavior includes but is not limited to the following:
Behavior that could be deemed as manipulation or “gaming” of any part of the buying or selling experience
Actions that could be perceived as manipulating customer reviews, including by directly or indirectly contributing false, misleading or inauthentic content
Activities that could be perceived as attempting to manipulate Amazon’s search results or sales rankings
Actions that intentionally damage another seller, their listings or their ratings
Amazon even offers a video for those wanting to learn more about Amazon policy violations. If you want to watch the video, you have to have a seller’s account and log in when you click the link.
There are Amazon product listing policies for every kind of listing. There are policies for:
Prohibited Seller Activities and Actions
If you have your own private label or white label brand, it is against Amazon product listing policies to direct customers away from their website. This is an example of prohibited activity and will result in your account getting suspended. There are other actions that result in getting your account suspended like:
Using Amazon’s email list to create your own
Directing people from Amazon to your site
Unauthorized and improper business names
Inappropriate email communications
Misuse of ratings, feedback or reviews
So as you can see, there are a lot of Amazon product listing policies that you have to follow before selling on Amazon if you want to avoid being suspended. It’s best to take precautions and go over as many pages as you can in Amazon Seller Central to avoid having your account suspended. You don’t want to end up throwing away your hard work and it goes to waste for something as simple as directing customers back to your website from Amazon.
